Barcode Scanners
Barcodes are machine-readable representations of data and can consist simply of a series of vertical bars and spaces that are variable in width, known as linear or one-dimensional (1D) barcodes, or more complicated two-dimensional (2D) geometric patterns of dots, rectangles or hexagons. 1D and 2D barcodes are the most common types of automatic-identification and data-capture (AIDC) technology used today.

2D barcode scanners and imagers have the ability to decode all barcode types, sizes and colors including; linear (picket fence) and 2D (stacked). Barcode scanners can scan (read) through glass, plastic, on screen and are even able to scan and read poorly-printed or faded barcodes.

Put simplest, a barcode scanner is a device used to capture and read data contained in a printed barcode. There are numerous functional classifications of barcode scanners, including hand-held versus stationary and wired versus wireless Bluetooth or LAN. Further, barcode scanners are used for data collection in a variety of unique applications, ranging from the point of receipt into inventory to the point of sale, and in a variety of environments, ranging from climate-controlled offices to cold-storage facilities.
Virtually all products are now labeled with barcodes, also known as Universal Product Codes (UPCs). UPCs were invented in 1973, and the first barcode scanner was installed in a supermarket in 1974. Formed in 1975, L-Tron Corporation has been actively involved with barcode technology since the formative years of the technology and has since consistently expanded its data-collection offerings to remain an industry leader in AIDC solutions.
More recently, color-2D barcodes have been introduced into the retail industry and are generally referred to as three dimensional (3D) barcodes.
L-Tron partners with industry-leading manufacturers such as Honeywell (Hand Held Products and Metrologic), Motorola (Symbol Technologies), Intermec and Datalogic to offer only "best in class" bar-coding solutions.
L-Tron offers complete solutions, including bar code scanners, printers, verifiers and mobile computers, and delivers them on time and within your budget. L-Tron will develop a custom solution based on your unique specifications. Contact the L-Tron team today to learn more about our product offerings and complete-solution packages.
