Advantech’s Growing Line of Embedded Platforms Based upon Intel’s Gen-2 Core i7 Processors

PCE-5126WG2-00A1E-2By now, you know Advantech as an industry-leading embedded platform and integration-services provider, a position that was further strengthened by its introduction of a new series of embedded boards that feature the performance, efficiency and integrated Intel HD graphics power of Intel’s 2nd-Generation Core i7 processors. Advantech is a Premier Member of Intel’s Embedded Alliance and works constantly to deliver cutting-edge integration of Intel’s most high-performance technologies.

As we’ve noted before, Core i7 processors boast a remarkable 731-million transistors, deploying Intel’s 32-nm Logic Technology, positioning the memory controller and four processing cores on a single die for maximum efficiency. The Core i7 architecture also adds a memory channel, boosting the number of those critical components from two to three. The design eliminates the less efficient front-side bus, swapping that for the far-greater bandwidth and latency improvement of Inte  l’s proprietary QuickPath Interconnect. Add built-in Hyper-Threading into the mix, enabling each individual core to process two threads simultaneously, and you’ve got an industry-leading platform.

AIMB-781QG2-00A1E-2“But wait,” the man said, “There’s more!” – with just part of that more represented by Intel’s Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, a feature that dynamically increases clock speed as needed to meet temporary demands while maintaining temperature and current within safe system parameters. Part of the even-more more is Intel’s Smart Cache system, a performance-enhancement feature that dynamically prioritizes delivery of 100%t of available cache to each core. And by cache, we mean a huge 8MB of that critical specification.

Advantech’s new embedded Core i7 platforms include Industrial Motherboards, PICMG 1.3 System-Host Boards and ATX-based Server-Grade Motherboards, including the Micro-ATX Motherboard configurations AIMB-581, AIMB-781 and PCE-5126.

The AIMB-581 features:

  • Four DIMM sockets to support up to 16-GB DDR3 SDRAM,
  • Support of dual CRT, DVI or LVDS displays, plus
  • Support of dual GbE LAN.

The PCE-5126 offers:

  • Dual-channel DDR3 to 16 GB,
  • Support of SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, plus AMT-7.0, and
  • Out-of-band remote management with IPMI.

The AIMB-781, Advantech’s sub-entry UP industrial-server board, is configured specifically for industrial-control, automation-equipment and surveillance-DVR applications, and features:

  • Four DIMM sockets that support up to 32-GB DDR3 SDRAM,
  • Support of dual VGA and DVI,
  • Support of dual GbE LAN,
  • Support of SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, plus AMT-7.0, and
  • Support for Advantech LPC modules of TPM and additional RS-232, 422 or 485 ports.

And those are just some of the Advantech’s growing line of embedded platforms that are based on Intel’s 2nd-generation Core i7 process.
