More Green on the Green: Mobile POS at Golf Courses

As I’ve slowly gotten into golf over the past couple years, I finally found something more irritating than losing the ball I just shanked into the trees: never having cash on me when the refreshment cart comes around.

It’s happened to all of us – hot & humid day for golf and all you want is something cold to drink. But when the vendor cart only accepts cash, your credit card isn’t going to get you anywhere.

So after my latest round of golf, I headed in to the pro shop and asked, “Do you have any plans to start accepting credit cards in the near future?” The manager explained that they’d love to, but it’s a bit too pricey for them to buy all of that hardware, and they didn’t know where to start looking for it all.

Knowing a thing or two about Mobile POS (Point of Sale), I came back the next weekend and introduced him to the Honeywell Captuvo SL22 Enterprise Sled and an Intermec PB32 Rugged Mobile Printer. Showing him the ropes of the devices, I explained that these devices take up little space and with the SL22 being iPod Touch 5th Gen compatible, employees would be familiar with the screen interface and could even use their own iPhone 5s to save the course some money.

And before the manager could get flustered over pricing, I mentioned to him that he could always set up a financing plan to pay for the devices over time. The financing plan could be flexible to accommodate for the off season, with larger payments during peak season and smaller payments during off season.

With a Mobile POS solution, the golf course could sell more on the vendor carts by offering another way for golfers to purchase snacks and beverages – credit card.
